Norway Visa from Pakistan (2026): How the Abu Dhabi Process Works
Norway has no visa section in Pakistan. Your documents are collected by a visa centre and decided in Abu Dhabi, which changes how you plan. Here is the process, the funds Norway expects and the mistakes that cost applicants time.

Norway is a Schengen member, so a Norwegian short-stay visa lets you travel to the whole Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. What makes Norway different for Pakistani applicants is not the rules but the routing: there is no visa section in Pakistan, and that changes your timeline.
How the process works
Norway's own guidance for Pakistan says applications from Pakistan are handled through the visa hub in Abu Dhabi, with the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) involved for some categories. The Norwegian Embassy in Islamabad does not process visas, so don't contact it for short-stay applications.
- •You register your application online and book an appointment with VFS Global, which operates Norway's visa application centres in Pakistan (Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore).
- •At the centre you submit your documents and give your fingerprints.
- •VFS Global sends the application by courier to the Norwegian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, which makes the decision.
- •Your passport and the decision come back through VFS.
The courier step is why a Norway application usually takes a little longer than one for a country with a local embassy. The official window is often quoted as 15 to 45 days, and the forwarding time to Abu Dhabi is on top of that, so treat any quoted timeline as a minimum, not a promise.
How much money should you show?
Norway publishes a reference amount per day of your stay. It is NOK 300 per day if you are staying with family or in pre-paid accommodation, and NOK 1,300 per day if you have not arranged accommodation. In practice, this means pre-booking accommodation for the whole trip lowers the amount you need to show considerably, and a vague accommodation plan raises it.
Norway is also one of the more expensive destinations per day, so a statement that works for a cheaper country may not look comfortable here. Our bank statement guide shows how to present your funds and explain large deposits.
Documents to prepare
- •A completed application form, registered online, and your passport with at least two blank pages and validity beyond your trip.
- •A recent photograph that meets the Schengen specification.
- •Travel medical insurance covering at least €30,000 for the Schengen area.
- •Six months of stamped bank statements in your own name, and proof of income such as salary slips or business records.
- •An employer letter with approved leave, or business registration documents if you are self-employed.
- •Accommodation for every night of the trip and a realistic day-by-day itinerary, plus a return flight reservation.
A cash service fee is payable at the VFS centre in addition to the €90 visa fee, so bring the right amount and confirm the current charge on the VFS Norway page for Pakistan.
Mistakes that cost Norway applicants time
- •Applying too close to travel dates and underestimating the courier step to Abu Dhabi.
- •Funds that don't match a Nordic daily budget, which typically costs more than southern Europe.
- •Inconsistent or missing hotel bookings across a multi-city itinerary.
- •Contacting the Embassy in Islamabad for a visa question it can't answer.
